Whether an instrument is ADS-L compatible depends on its manufacturer, model, and sometimes its firmware version. There is no single rule: some recent instruments integrate ADS-L natively, others can be updated, and others are not designed to integrate it.
How to check
- Check your instrument's technical datasheet from the manufacturer or its official documentation.
- Look for mentions of "ADS-L", "transmission" and "reception" — a device may do one without the other.
- Check the installed firmware version: some manufacturers roll out the ADS-L feature via an update on existing hardware.
On FlyVisible product pages
Each product page in our catalog displays a dedicated block:
- ADS-L transmission: yes / no
- ADS-L reception: yes / no
- Compatible with: list of relevant practices or instruments
We rely on the specifications publicly communicated by the manufacturer when they exist. When a feature (in particular ADS-L In reception) is not explicitly confirmed by a public manufacturer source, we mark it as not confirmed rather than asserting it.
If your instrument is not compatible
If your current instrument cannot become ADS-L compatible, a standalone ADS-L unit remains an option — it works independently of your existing vario or GPS. Our configurator can guide you toward a solution suited to your current equipment.
